You probably know that First United Bank is a tremendous supporter of Lubbock-Cooper ISD. Their generosity spans from holding the naming rights for our Pirate athletics complex (and serving as frequent game hosts) to sponsoring the Lubbock-Cooper Education Foundation's annual benefit concert, serving yearly meals to campus staff members in a show of appreciation, and sending dozens of volunteers to read to our elementary students as part of the annual United We Read campaign.
What you may not know is that each year, First United Bank makes a generous donation reserved exclusively for LCISD academics. These funds fill a variety of needs, including technology used to teach phonetic skills and literacy, materials that specifically serve students with dyslexia, professional development opportunities for our teachers, and so much more!
First United Bank was founded by the late Ray M. Bain, whose wife, Barbara, was an elementary school teacher for 35 years. She has a passion for public education, and is well-known by her former students and their families for her servant's heart and her dedication to their academic success (and also for the homemade cupcakes she always baked for her students on their birthdays)! We are grateful for passionate, loving teachers just like Mrs. Bain, and for a partnership with First United Bank that supports our students and teachers while promoting not only the Spirit of West Texas, but the spirit of the LCP Family!

Lubbock Area United Way's annual United We Read day is set for October 26! This special event sends volunteers to every second-grade classroom in Lubbock County, where visitors read a book to students, lead a craft, and distribute take-home books to students. Approximately 3,500 second-graders hear the same book at the same time all over Lubbock County, reminding us of the importance of literacy to student success!
United We Read is not possible without volunteers to read to classrooms, lead crafts, and more! We would love for you, your friends, your co-workers, and others who support Lubbock-Cooper education to volunteer in our elementary schools that morning!
